But coming home didn\u2019t bring immediate peace.<\/p>\n<p>As Russell found solace and community through kayaking, he knew that other veterans could experience the same. The first Professional Transformation Sports Development \u2014PTSD\u2014 program took place not long after.<\/p>\n<p>With two-week sessions designed to introduce veterans to the outdoor sport of their choice and give them the skills and the gear they need to continue, PTSD also grants veterans a sense of camaraderie, community, and challenge lacking in civilian life.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPTSD, its whole purpose is to let veterans find an escape, an outdoor escape. There\u2019s so many therapeutic aspects to it.
