Year of the River

Episode 2

Washington's White Salmon River is a haven for rafters, kayakers and nature lovers. It was once a haven for salmon too; soon it will be again. Episode 2 of Andy Maser's "Year of the River" series tells the inspiring story of this beautiful river's rebirth.

In 2011, the United States reached an important and exciting milestone – the removal of over 1,000 dams nationwide.

In the Pacific Northwest, major dam removal projects on Washington's Elwha and White Salmon rivers have become the capstones of the river conservation movement. In Year of the River, NRS Ambassador Andy Maser – a kayaker, filmmaker, world explorer and environmental advocate – turns his lens on this historic occasion. The result is a beautiful and hopeful tribute to free-flowing water and the people for whom it means everything.
