LEADing the Way with Russell Davies

Scroll

In 2011, after 15 months in Iraq and 12 months in Afghanistan, Russell Davies was released from active military duty. But coming home didn’t bring immediate peace.

As Russell found solace and community through kayaking, he knew that other veterans could experience the same. The first Professional Transformation Sports Development —PTSD— program took place not long after.

With two-week sessions designed to introduce veterans to the outdoor sport of their choice and give them the skills and the gear they need to continue, PTSD also grants veterans a sense of camaraderie, community, and challenge lacking in civilian life.

“PTSD, its whole purpose is to let veterans find an escape, an outdoor escape. There’s so many therapeutic aspects to it. It helped me tremendously, and I know it can help other veterans.” —Russell Davies, Founder

Through PTSD, Russell Davies is helping veterans develop the skills they need to navigate the river and find healing through the outdoors.
